We're practising what we preach: shipped is better than perfect. As we work on our new website, things may be a little rough around the edges. Your feedback will help us improve it.
We are Noise & Grain. A small web design studio focused on building fast, accessible and user-friendly websites for museums, heritage organisations, charities and not-for-profits.
Every element, from design to copy to photos, should meet your audience's needs. To do this, you must know your audience and keep listening.
Studies have shown that a difference in just a few seconds can significantly impact a website's effectiveness. We prioritise website speed early in the design process, ensuring the websites we create load as quickly as possible.
We believe that all websites should be accessible and usable for everyone. The websites we build adhere to current accessibility standards, and we prioritise inclusiveness, readability, and usability over pure aesthetics.
You don't know if users will visit your website via a phone, tablet, laptop, or a large desktop monitor. By following responsive design best practices, we can ensure your site looks and functions beautifully on any device.
Websites are never done. They should be continuously improving with new and updated content. Therefore, your CMS should get out of the way and make content management a breeze.
A website is only as good as its text. Organising and structuring content is a crucial part of the design process—ensuring it’s clear, easy to find, and speaks to your audience in the right way. Creating good content means understanding users, using familiar language, and crafting thoughtful micro copy.
This is our goal for every project we work on: combine all of the principles above whilst also making the website look great. Beautiful and functional.
We keep things simple—no jargon or buzzwords, just honest conversations. We’re good at translating between organisational needs and geek-speak.
Your website, your accounts. You’ll have access to everything, so you’re never locked in. If you ever choose to move on, you can—no strings attached.
We keep costs fair by eliminating overheads and unnecessary layers. You work directly with us, not account managers or intermediaries.
We only take on a select few clients at a time, allowing us to give our full attention to your project. Our proven process ensures efficiency and adaptability.
We are Noise & Grain, a small and nimble web design studio focused on building beautiful and functional websites for museums, heritage, charities and not-for-profits.
We take pride in our work and only accept projects if we're sure we can help.
Our motto is simple: with every website we create, we aim to leave the web a better place.
Based in Leeds, Adam is a web developer and designer with over 10 years of experience creating websites for a wide range of clients, from large-scale e-commerce platforms to charities and non-profit organisations. Passionate about building fast, engaging, and accessible websites, he prioritises performance, usability, and inclusivity. Outside of work, he enjoys indoor rock climbing, cycling, and exploring film photography.
Marc has been building websites for 20+ years, initially building a fansite for his favourite game (Command & Conquer) and eventually working on large websites serving millions of monthly visitors. He enjoys problem-solving and collaborating with passionate people who are making a difference. He's worked on dozens of projects with agencies and in-house teams, so he knows what makes a project succeed (and what doesn't). When not crafting websites, you'll likely find him behind a camera, capturing the world one shot at a time.
